Set up your brand voice and guidelines

Add brand rules so every take gets checked before it goes out; Business admins can push locked rules to every creator in their organisation.

Before you start

You need a Tention account that has completed onboarding. If you are on a Solo or Pro plan, you manage your own rules. If you are a Business admin, you can also push rules down to every creator in your organisation. Those rules appear locked on each creator's screen. Rules sync instantly between mobile and web.

Understanding rule scope

  • Business rules, hard checks. A take that breaks a business rule is held for review. These are the non-negotiables.
  • Personal rules, soft checks. A take that breaks a personal rule gets flagged, but is not blocked. These are your preferences.

Creators on a Business account see a lock icon next to rules pushed by their organisation's admin. Locked rules cannot be edited or removed.

On desktop (web app at tention.app)

  1. Sign in and look at the left sidebar. Click Brand check (the shield icon).
  2. You will see two tabs: Business and Personal. Start with Business.
  3. Click Add a business rule (top right, green button).
  4. A panel slides in from the right. In Label, type a short name, something you will recognise later, like "No rate predictions".
  5. In Rule, type the rule itself in plain language. The app reads this word-for-word when it checks your takes.
  6. If the rule field looks like you have pasted in several rules at once, a warning will appear. Split them into one rule each.
  7. Optionally pick a Category from the dropdown (Legal or regulatory, Brand voice, Style, Topic, Other).
  8. Click Add rule. It appears in the list straight away.
  9. Repeat for each Business rule. Then click the Personal tab and add your personal preferences.

On mobile (Tention app)

  1. Open the app and tap the settings/profile icon.
  2. Under Account, tap Guidelines.
  3. You will see two sections: BUSINESS and PERSONAL.
  4. Tap + Add a rule in the relevant section.
  5. A sheet slides up. Type a Label and then the Rule in your own words.
  6. Tap Choose a category if you want to group it (optional).
  7. Tap Add rule.

To edit or remove a rule

  1. Web: click a rule card to expand it, then click Edit or Remove.
  2. Mobile: tap any rule row to open the editor sheet, then tap Save changes or Delete rule.
  3. Locked rules cannot be edited or removed. Contact your admin to change them.

For Business admins: pushing rules to your organisation

  1. Go to Brand check in the left sidebar.
  2. Add a rule as above, then toggle Push to all creators before saving. The rule becomes locked for every creator in your organisation.
  3. To update or remove a locked rule, do it from the admin view. The change propagates to all creators instantly.

You'll know it worked when

  • Web: the rule appears in the list under its category group.
  • Mobile: the rule row shows in the relevant section immediately after you save.
  • When you next run a brand check on a filmed take, the app checks your transcript against every rule you have added.
